Julian was born in San Carlos, Paraguay, where his family owned a small farm and grew cotton, corn, peanuts, and yucca. Julian worked on the family farm for many years until he saved enough money to buy a used chainsaw. He worked as a logger, carving building boards, boards that were hauled by oxen and carts back to villages from the rainforests. The youngest of 8 siblings, Julian is the only one to graduate from high school.

After meeting his future wife Eileen in 1990, while she was serving as a PeaceCorps volunteer in Paraguay, Julian and Eileen returned to the U.S. in 1994 when they got married and moved to Florida. Moving was a life changing experience for Julian, and he soon found himself alone and unable to communicate. He studied English, found a job working for a stucco company, attended vocational school, and earned his trades degree in electrical wiring and code. After earning “Most Outstanding Student”, he went on to work for an electrical contractor in Florida. However, he soon realized his dream was to establish and operate a business of his own.

In pursuit of his dream, he worked several years as an electrican’s helper. He earned his Journeyman electrician’s license and later his Master electrician’s license when he and Eileen moved to VT in 2000. In February, 2001, their daughter Katrina was born, and in 2002, Julian’s ownership dream was realized when he opened Nunez Electric, LLC.

He first took an interest in photovoltaics in 2009, when an electrical customer inquired about the possibility of having solar installed. Julian signed up for and attended an entry-level, solar PV course in Boston, MA, after which he was hooked on learning all he could about solar installations. The more he learned about solar, the more he liked the idea of doing something “green” to give back to the earth and to counter his contribution to deforestation during his logging years.

Julian, Eileen, and Katrina moved to Chapel Hill, NC, in November, 2014, for the many opportunities that this region offers: superior education, cultural diversity, warmer weather, and solar opportunities.  Julian, Eileen, and Katrina own a net zero shop in Vermont and are installing additional solar panels on their Chapel Hill home to make it net zero as well.

Julian is passionate about helping customers make a difference through green technologies.
